By Laura Welles Wilson

The Women Lawyers Section of the Cincinnati Bar Association creates opportunities for professional and personal connections among women engaged in the legal profession; provides training and philanthropic opportunities for its members and other members of the bar; and serves as a presence and voice for women attorneys in the community. With over 1,000 active members, which represents roughly a third of all CBA membership, the WLS seeks to engage its members in programs and discussions that impact women lawyers in our profession as well as women in our community at-large.
WLS has several initiatives and programs planned for this bar year and invites all members of the CBA to join us for these events:
ANNUAL CLE
Mark your calendars for My Body, My Choice? A CLE Program offered by the WLS on September 12, 2023, from 12-1pm with Dean and Professor of Law Judith Daar. Dean Daar is the Ambassador Patricia L. Herbold Dean of Chase College of Law. As a professor, she has taught core law school courses and specialty health law courses while concentrating her scholarship at the intersection of law, medicine, and ethics. She is widely recognized as an expert in the area of law and assisted reproductive technologies.
COMMITTEE AWARDS
The WLS sponsors two annual awards. The Julia A. Stautberg Award is presented in memory of Judge Julia A. Stautberg, to a female CBA member attorney for exemplary service. Through her accom- plishments, the honoree ref lects the principles, integrity, and professionalism of Judge Stautberg.
The WLS Voice Rising Star Award
is presented to a female CBA member attorney, under 40, for exemplary service. Through her distinguished service, the honoree has made significant contribu- tions to the legal/general community and reflects the highest principles of legal profession.
The presentation of both awards will be made at the September CLE. Nominations for these awards are accepted throughout the year and can be made through the CBA website on a rolling basis.
     Give Your Career
a Voice
Voice brings together attorneys at various stages of their career from the new attorney to the experienced veteran to discuss issues relating to developing and thriving in the practice of law. Co-chaired by Ashley Shannon Burke and Maria T. Schneider, the Voice program is intended to provide an opportunity for candid discussion on issues that impact lawyers in their practice, and women attorneys in particular, from pay transparency, to dealing with implicit bias at work, to mental health and well-being.
