Tell us a a a a bit about your background – education hometown current job I’m originally from Connecticut I’ve lived in in Ohio Ohio for about 11 years and and now call Montgomery Ohio Ohio home I I I completed my my undergraduate degree at at the the the U S Air Air Force Force Academy and and then served in the the the Air Air Force Force for for for eight years as as an an an an officer Before law school I I worked as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a project manager for for for a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a Fortune 500 company in in in in the Cincinnati area For For a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a greater intellectual challenge I I decided to to pursue law at at at at at The Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law I’m an an attorney in in in Taft Stettinius & Hollister’s Private Client and Business practice groups When and why did you become involved in in the Estate Planning practice group?
When I I I first started at at at Taft a a a a a a a a a mentor recommended that that I I I become active in the the group and and I’ve I’ve tried to to follow that that advice I’ve I’ve been part of of the the the the Practice Group Committee for a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a few years and and began a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a term as the the the Chair of of of the the the practice group earlier this year year I’m excited to be be part of of of a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a team that plans learning networking and development opportunities for our professional community What’s on on the the horizon/what are your goals in the the 2023-2024 bar year for the Estate Planning practice group?
The Practice Group Committee hopes to to revamp our group meetings—to offer meaningful opportunities for exchanging knowledge and and and expertise The pandemic changed the way many attorneys work and and and it it it it created challenges for building personal connections within our our community of practitioners Moving forward we want to focus our our regular group meetings on on on on less
formal but still useful presentations that that that explore issues that that that prac- titioners may encounter My goal is is that that that these regular meetings become mentorship opportunities where senior practice group members members support newer members members We’re also committed to to to continuing to to offer our excellent CLE events like the the upcoming Basic Estate Estate Planning Planning & Probate Institute Institute and the the Advanced Estate Estate Planning Planning Institute If there was one piece of advice you’d give to someone entering the estate planning field what would it be?
Being able able to bounce questions issues and ideas off o of other practitioners is is invaluable Whether you’re in in in in in a a a a a a a a a a a a large or or or small firm I think it’s incredibly important to build a a a a a a a a a a a a a network of seasoned practitioners who can share their experiences and wisdom with you Our profession doesn’t always make this easy We’re all juggling multiple priorities and and have time time constraints but I’ve found it it incredibly helpful to to to set aside time time to to to expand my profes- sional-support connections To the extent any local attorney has struggled to to to develop a a a a a a a a a a a a a core network—or wants to to to create an an an an even stronger network—I hope the Estate Planning & Probate practice group can help What are your hobbies and/or what do do you you do do for fun?
I I enjoy spending time with my my my wife Sasha my my my two daugh- ters Lydia and and and and Esther and and and and my my my dog Charles I I I also fish garden and and and and and follow the the the the Reds and and and and and Bengals for fun Over the the the the years I’ve built an an an an an extensive collection of daffodils and and and I I love seeing them bloom because it means warmer weather is around the the the corner 22
