CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2024 BLAC AWARD RECIPIENTS
Justeen Jackson
William A. McClain Scholarship
Justeen Jackson is a 3L at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. She is a grad- uate of Walnut Hills High School and
Miami University. Justeen graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Arts in social justice studies and professional writing. She is also a Summer Work Expe- rience in Law (SWEL) alumna after joining the organization as a summer scholar in high school. Justeen has been dedicated to a career in public interest law since her first summer internship with SWEL at the Ohio Justice and Policy Center. Throughout law school, Justeen has been involved in the Black Law Student Asso- ciation (BLSA) as a volunteer mentor and co-chair of the mentoring partnership between BLSA and Hughes STEM High School. Additionally, Justeen has worked at the Ohio Innocence Project and two public defenders’ offices during her law school experience. She is excited to see where her career will take her after grad- uation in May.
Megan Hasson
Shanda L. Spurlock/ Dinsmore Scholarship Megan Hasson is a
first-year law student at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. She graduated from Princeton High
School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminology with a minor in Athletic Coaching from Ohio Dominican Univer- sity. Megan was a member of the volleyball and track teams, an academic tutor, a resi- dent assistant and youth volleyball coach. Asa1LatUCLaw,Meganwasoneof two students selected as “pre-admittance fellows” for the Ohio Innocence Project. This summer, Megan will work under OIP Director Mark Godsey, learning about causes of wrongful conviction while gaining hands-on experience reviewing inmates’ applications, conducting prison visits, and assisting with court filings. Additionally, Megan was elected as the 1L representative for the Criminal Law Society, and competed in KMK’s 6th Annual Diversity Case Competition, where she and her partner, fellow award recipient Joele Newman, earned 3rd place.
Abigail Adu
Judge Nathaniel R. Jones Scholarship
Abby is a first- year law student at the University of Cincin- nati College of Law. She graduated from Mount Vernon High
School and received her bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in public policy from Trevecca Nazarene University. Abby was part of the first female team from to place in the semifinals during Tennessee’s statewide Appellate Moot Court competition. Abby interned for the Tennessee House of Representatives and two non-profits, and she was accepted for The Nathaniel R. Jones Center for Race, Gender, and Social Justice. Abby received the highest grade in her Fall Contracts and Legal Research and Writing Classes at UC Law. She moved to Cincinnati in August 2023, and is familiarizing herself with the community by volunteering with the Hamilton County Youth Court Program. She is also a gymnastics coach with Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy. Abby will work at Taft Law this summer.
