 THE REPORT | July/August 2023 | CincyBar.org
Presented by Steven P. Goodin, Esq., Porter Wright Morris & Arthur LLP
In an historic and widely publicized trial, former Cincinnati City Councilmember P. G. Sittenfeld was convicted of bribery and attempted extortion by a federal jury in Cincinnati. Steve Goodin, a former City Councilmember and veteran prosecutor and defense lawyer, covered the trial for several local news outlets. This presentation will provide a detailed overview of the trial and a dissection of both side’s strategy, as well as the unique post-trial motion practice. It will also examine the Government’s newly expansive approach to public corruption cases, and several new U.S. Supreme Court cases which signal possible limitations on that approach.
