WITH THE
Laura Thudium & Melissa Thompson Millard
 FAMILY LAW GROUP
CO-CHAIRS
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND.
THUDIUM: I am a family law attorney and the owner of Thudium Law. I grew up in Glasgow, Kentucky and Winfield, West Virginia. I attended Centre College for my undergraduate degree and University of Cincinnati for law school. I have lived in Cincinnati ever since.
MILLARD: I am an attorney at Barbara J. Howard Co., LPA, practicing family law. I have practiced family law since my graduation from law school in 2014, and had been working as a law clerk in family law throughout law school. I grew up in Cincinnati, went to college at Indiana University, and then moved back to Cincinnati to attend UC Law.
HOW DID YOU BECOME INVOLVED IN THE GROUP?
THUDIUM: I have been involved with the CBA since right out of law school and have always enjoyed the Domestic Relations Committee meetings. My good friends Melissa Millard and Diana Link encouraged me to get involved and assist them as secretary of the group and I am so glad I did.
MILLARD: I became involved in the CBA as a new lawyer. My boss at the time, Phyllis Bossin, was very supportive of our engagement with the CBA. I attended the DR Committee’s monthly meetings and loved the opportunity to talk shop with other family law attorneys. The family law bar in Cincinnati is very close-knit and collegial. Over the years, colleagues have become friends.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR FELLOW GROUP MEMBERS?
THUDIUM: Discussing recent cases, understanding current court processes, and strategizing together about how to avoid common pitfalls. These discussions help everyone in the group sharpen their skills and provide the best service to our clients.
MILLARD: Sometimes we discuss a group member’s specific case, whether it’s just to lend an ear or to offer advice. The monthly meetings provide a forum for us to talk openly with our colleagues about the stress and struggles of our practice. We also invite representatives from the Court to join us. Some meetings will be dedicated to discussing recent opinions from our courts of appeals. It’s a great way to stay up-to-date on the latest relevant case law.
O
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE T
THUDIUM: I love Eden Park in Cincinnati. My office isn’t far from it so it is a nice place to go and take a walk when I need a break. There are so many beautiful gardens and views from the different areas inside the park, it is a great place to escape!
 VISIT IN CINCINNATI AND WHY?
MILLARD: Miami Whitewater is my favorite spot in Cincinnati. When life gets hectic, we like to visit Miami Whitewater for a bike ride or a long walk.
