Hospital on November 19, following a
brief illness. Survived by his loving wife,
Charlotte; sister, Ruth Ferguson; chil-
dren, Janet Patin (Michael), Rob (Monica
Kindt), Dean (Dana), and Eric (Susanna);
stepchildren, Stephanie Hogue and
Christopher Hogue (Jennifer); and grandchildren, Will Goering
(Rose Farrugia), Douglas Goering, Hunter Goering, Georgia
Goering, Andrew Goering, Lily Goering, Sam Goering, Dovic
Patin, Claire Patin, Roman Kindt, Andreas Pagdadis, Nikolas
Pagdadis, Emmanuella Pagdadis, and Taylor Hogue.
He leaves behind a large extended family and scores of friends
from all parts of his life as a lawyer, hunter, fisherman, poker
player, community volunteer, and church member. He loved his
farm, which has been in the family for over 50 years. He and his
first wife Ruth traveled the world with their children, and Bob
fished every opportunity he could. Challenging his sister at crib-
bage was a special joy.
Bob was born in La Porte, IN to parents Elise Louise (Hauck)
and William Augustus Goering and moved to Cincinnati in early
childhood. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Goering,
his parents, and siblings, Bill Goering and Elise Bick. He gradu-
ated from Yale University and Salmon Chase Law School at NKU.
At the time of his death, he was still practicing law at Goering
and Goering, which he founded with Wayne Wilke. He and
Wayne wrote much of the Ohio bankruptcy code that is used
today and filed the first Chapter 13 case in Cincinnati. His sons
Eric Goering and Hon. Robert A. Goering worked with him in
the firm for years. He taught Bankruptcy law at NKU for over 40
years, inspiring law students to pursue a career helping debtors.
He counts numerous Bankruptcy Judges as former students.
Bob served on the Hamilton County Park Board, and he was
a board member of United Cerebral Palsy and Living Arrange-
ments for the Developmentally Disabled (LADD) boards. He was
a longtime member of the Queen City Anglers Club and enjoyed
fishing all over the world. He treasured his Tuesday lunches with
his grandson, Doug. But his greatest role was at his church, where
he did everything from helping in the kitchen to serving as an
elder. He will be greatly missed.
