Creating Inclusive Communities Through Belonging
Lawyers Connecting Beyond the Law (LCBL) is an initiative of the Cincinnati Bar Association’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee that seeks to make our legal community more
welcoming and inclusive through the development of personal relationships. Since 2018, this culturally-responsive program has engaged local lawyers and law students in both large and small learning groups over the course of nine months.
LCBL participants from diverse fields of practice and back- grounds build relationships, explore the rich resources the city has to offer, and examine the diversity and inclusion chal- lenges facing our community directly and collaboratively.
This year, LCBL continues the work of building a more inclusive and cross-culturally informed and responsive
legal community by exploring the concept of “belonging.”
We will examine what it means to belong, including the psychological and physiological aspects of belonging, and explore belonging in the context of diverse religious commu- nities and through facilitated discussions on mental health awareness and destigmatizing mental illness. Participants will have opportunities to take part in onsite visits, large, facilitated working groups, and small discussion groups, sharing stories and life experiences that helped shape their current perspec- tives on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Kicking off at the University of Cincinnati Law School on Monday, January 29, 2024, the LCBL team is looking ahead to site visits at Ohio Buddhist Vihara, Tender Mercies, and more.
LCBL is open to CBA members and local law students who seek to understand, communicate with and effectively interact
