Civility in legal practice is often promoted as an important aspect of professionalism.
But is the virtue of civility simply that it makes legal practice more pleasant for everyone? In this talk I suggest that other virtues of civility are that it improves the quality of one’s advocacy on the merits and that, system-wide, it supports the concept of the rule of law.
